Pre-divorce dilemma I don't know if I'll actually file anytime soon, but I have a bunch of money sitting in my checking/savings account from money that I have earned and saved. Husband blows everything he makes. He is self employed and STILL has yet to file income tax returns because he owes a lot of money, around $x,x. We are thinking of filing separately for x. Anyways, should I move my hard-earned and saved cash to my two children's savings accounts? They won't know abuot it, of cousre. It is being earmarked for their college educations - one is prsently in college, the othxer will be next year. I don't want the IRS to swoop in and take everything like they did some years ago.

is it in a joint account? if not you should be safe from the IRS

Sure...if you want the IRS to charge you with fraud. I understand Leavenworth prison is not very comfortable, tho.

FYI, if your children's account is a joint account with you or your husband, the IRS and your husband can take some or all the money.
